CHRISTMAS FOOD BOXES

CHRISTMAS FOOD BOXES

Submitted By George Ramsey, PA State Director

December 2004, Chapter B once again put together 20 food boxes for those less fortunate than ourselves.  For the past eight years or so, Ruthie and I have been coordinators of this effort to make a difference.  Our members donate different food and Ruthie and I solicit money from area businesses, with which we buy whatever is needed to fill the boxes.  We ask the people to call and tell us what they are bringing so we don’t have too much of the same thing and then we buy accordingly.  This year we received gift cards totaling almost $200.00 and I sent thank you letters to each business.  After our meeting on Dec. 5th, everyone stayed and helped fill the boxes, which we stored at Meadowbrook (where we hold our meetings) until Dec. 21st when we would deliver them.

On the 21st I picked up the 20 turkeys (which Chapter B pays for) and we took them to Meadowbrook where some folks brought the bread and potatoes and pies to finish off the boxes.  Some of us knew of families who are in need and others took some boxes to organizations like Women In Crisis etc.

We know from feedback that the boxes were very much appreciated and we hope they made someone’s Christmas that much more joyful and gave a good start to their New Year.
