HOBO WEEKEND

HOBO WEEKEND

I must say, our first real camping experience was a huge success.  Our Chapter “A” Hobo really knows how to camp.  And his wife really knows how to cook Hobo Stew.

We arrived at Gifford Pinchot State Park about noon on Friday.  Found our spot, on the corner of the main road, and went about setting up camp.  I made chili on the open fire for anyone who was hungry when they arrived.  They cleaned it up.  That is a good sign.

Yohns were really late getting there.  They arrived about 9:30 - 10:00 pm.  They had some electric, hitch hook-up, etc. problems that Clyde tried to fix but was unsuccessful.  So he hauled Geanne on her bike.  The important thing is, they got there safe and sound.

The tenters were across the street from us but close enough that we could call for supplies as needed.

John Myers cooks an awesome breakfast and leads a really great Ice Cream Run.  This place had a mini zoo.  And he found it on his new GPS!

Sunday morning John cooks up sausage and pancakes.  Talk about the Ritz!  Is this really camping?

But the highlight of  the camping trip, at least for me, was the “tea kettle” event.  You had to be there.  First Clyde … now this is early morning, just after he presents himself after oversleeping!!! And after Ken ‘heated water for Gerry’ in an empty aluminum kettle … over an open fire.  You gotta know the water pressure at the spigot was strong.

If you haven’t figured out by now, the kettle had a melted, big hole in the bottom.  We have pictures to show the results.  Like I said, you hada be there.

Now, later on we were joined by Don and Gladys Kreiser.  As we all sat by the campfire chit chatting and enjoying the day, our Hobo, Ken, who was sitting quietly enjoying the company, asked Gladys if she would go fill the kettle so he could make hot water.  Being the helpful soul she is, Gladys trudges to the spigot.  Yep, great water pressure, and she can’t figure out why it is taking so long to fill this darn kettle.  Well Geanne has the pictures to tell the rest of the story.  You hada be there!

I must say, if Geibs, Yohns and Myers had as much fun as the Mentzers, it was a Class A camping trip.  One the Mentzers would like to participate in again and again.

Thanks Mr. & Mrs. Hobo for a great weekend, and thank you Yohns and Myers for great company.
