GOLD CLASSIC XXII…

SNOWSHOE, W.V.

Written by George Ramsey, PA State Director

Well, another National Rally has come and gone (sadly) but once again our people put together a fun filled, enjoyable event.

My hat’s off to Ron and Gloria Mentzer and anyone who helped them for a wonderful job under daunting circumstances.  The area has some great roads and there was plenty to see and do. The Cass Railroad proved to be especially popular even though many of us rode it when the rally was in Staunton, VA.

One of the daunting circumstances was the fact that our banquet had to be at the top of the mountain because of seating.  But shuttle busses were provided and some of the attendees who had four wheelers generously donated their time to ferry people up and or down.  The same happened for the national meeting and bingo.  Thank you our four-wheeling friends.

Speaking of the meeting, a concern over a state directors party, i.e. ice cream social, pool party, etc. was answered I think by the state directors deciding to see that funds are available and helping project directors make it happen.

We were all pleasantly surprised by a father and son who asked if they could attend the rally. Arvid and Vidar Lovik from Norway put a glow on Gloria’s’ face you had to see to believe.  She was ecstatic.  Arvid ( he didn’t want me calling him Mr. Lovik ) and Vidar are really nice people and they fit in quite well.  I’m sure they feel that A.G.W.A. people are as well.  When Arvid had trouble with some lights, Bill Naughton and others jumped right in to help.  They rode with us on rides, participated in field events, bike show and light show.  And in the process made a killing on plaques.  It couldn’t have happened to nicer folks. Those of you who participated in the various events delighted us all.  Thank you.

My job of handling 50/50 sales was made so easy with help from Don and Marion Oller of Tennessee, Bob and Pat Dombrowski and Ron and Jan LeClerc from Massachusetts, Gerry Huffman and Brenda Zuelch from Michigan, the good folks who sold in the hospitality room and of course my wife Ruthie.  Thanks to all you generous people who bought.

In closing, let me say that it was a joy as always to see old friends and make new ones.  I hope we have many years of friendship and rallies to look forward to.

Until we meet again, Take Real Good Care and Be Safe.  George Ramsey
