MUDDY RUN WEEKEND

We arrived at site #159 around 6:20 p.m. Friday.  The Geibs and Yohns already had their tents set up under the pine trees.  The guys built a great campfire and we enjoyed a supper of fresh corn on the cob, hot dogs, and sausage sandwiches.  We even surprised Gerry with a birthday cake – seeing that she went camping with us on her birthday!  Later that evening however, we had a scary experience, or rather Gerry did.  She went to the bathhouse for her shower, but on the way back became disoriented and couldn’t find our campsite.  She asked a gentlemen if he knew where campsite #159 was and he said, “Oh yes, it’s right beside campsite #158!  Poor Gerry!  She did manage to find her way back.  Clyde promised he would put his headlight on blinking mode for her next time she went to the bathhouse.  He was so helpful!

By 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, we had coffee in hand as we watched Ken, the Master Chef, prepare a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, pepper bacon, and eggs.  (Course it was under the watchful eye of his dearly beloved). Oh, it was sooo good.

Next, we uncovered the bikes, Ken conversed with Lola – Geanne and Clyde conversed with Elvira, then we were off.  What an afternoon – the sun was bright and warm as we traveled the back roads heading to Maryland.  We were to visit Ed and Lynne and see their newest toy – a boat named JABBET (Just Another Big Boy’s Expensive Toy).  After a tour of the boat we headed to the Nauti Goose – a restaurant on the waterfront famous for their crab soup.  It was true too.

Several hours later, we hopped on our bikes and headed back to camp as we had “guests” coming for supper – John and Denise.  They brought blueberries and petite crab cakes.  (Are we really camping??).

Several highlights and helpful hints were shared on this trip.  We’d like to pass them along. First, Gerry introduced us to the best gnat chaser away ever – her Bounce laundry sheets helped keep those little bugs away.  We put them everywhere – on our heads – in our drawers, - oops, I mean our pant legs.  Even our Scotties, JJ and Hope, had them tied to their collars!  Then, Ken told us a sure way to start a fire.  Just gather some of your dryer lint (fuzzies) and put in a plastic bag.  Then when you’re at camp, just put a few drops of pine sap on it and waa-laa – instant fire starter.

Playing dominos was a real hoot!  It grew quite tense and challenging as Clyde and Gerry squared off.  We laughed so hard, I was fearful we were going to be thrown out of the campground, but we weren’t.  We all had our laughing muscles strengthened.  What a GREAT weekend!
